<p>Cascade Server is a Java-based “push” CMS that can either be installed locally or hosted in the cloud by Hannon Hill – the company behind Cascade Server.</p>
<p>Version 7.12 of Cascade Server is another step taken by Hannon Hill to, “improve the user experience”. They have focused on content reporting and content authoring by adding improvements to the draft and editing interfaces. Let's take a deeper look at what's new.</p>

<h2>UI Tweaks, Link Checkers &amp; More</h2>
<p>Cascade Server 7.12 features a brand new site-wide broken link report. We all know that keeping up with the quality of your site’s internal and external links is no easy undertaking, but it's an essential part of maintaining a high caliber website. This feature will regularly scan your site for both internal and external links, allowing users to find and fix these links before they ever go live.</p>
<p>This new feature will check all publishable Pages and Files in the system for broken links on a daily schedule. Any broken links encountered are stored in the database as a report which can be viewed on the Link Checker dashboard. Accompanying the Broken Link Report is the new Link Checker Summary dashboard widget, which provides a summary of the status of broken links on the current site.</p>
<p>Below are some more notable features from version 7.12:</p>
<ul>
<li>Improvements to the Editing and Drafting UI. We’ve revamped the drafting experience to be more seamless and less obtrusive.</li>
<li>Stale Content Filtering. You can filter down your Stale Content Dashboard and see only what you want to see.</li>
<li>Improved support for inserting and link-checking scheme-relative links. This will allow you to keep up with the trend towards more HTTPS-enabled sites and a secure web.</li>

Cascade Server 7.12 Released

<p>The recent shortcomings of the healthcare.gov website may have put health information management (HIM) in the United States in a particularly uncomfortable spotlight – but the truth is, managing content for the vast and vital systems that the healthcare industry requires is a constant and enormous challenge everywhere across the globe.</p>
<p>Industrialized nations worldwide have legislated a myriad of regulations to help ensure that healthcare records be confidential and private, while at the same time ensuring their availability for those who need access for the sake of patients' health and lives.</p>
<p>Such legislation includes Canada's PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act), the European Union's Data Protection Directive, and Japan's Personal Information Protection Act (JPIPA), among others.</p>
<p>Technology increases our ability to make the goals of ready and secure access to information a reality for hospitals, physician groups and health plans; at the same time, however, without the right systems in place, technology also puts medical record integrity and security at risk.</p>

<h2>Technology Both Mitigates and Creates Risk</h2>
<p>On the one hand, an enterprise content management (ECM) system such as Hyland's OnBase can eliminate the security risk posed by old-fashioned document-shredding, allowing medical professionals to instead assign automatic expiration dates for information deletion.</p>
<p>On the other hand, the very existence of ubiquitous computing (via smartphones, etc.) is what makes infamous medical record security breaches – like the case of the laptop that was stolen from the UK's Peterborough District Hospital – possible to begin with. It is for these reasons that healthcare information management guidelines worldwide recognize the benefits of a software system that ensures the ability to track the location of information, to monitor who accesses it (and when) through careful user authentication, and to encrypt data as needed while preventing data loss and fighting malware.</p>
<p>The right technology must also be accompanied by sufficient technical support, ensuring good user training and education, as well as proper system maintenance over time.</p>
<p>CMS' like <a href="/products/cascade-cms/" target="_blank">Cascade Server</a> and MedTouch, which is a <a href="/products/sitecore/" target="_blank">Sitecore</a> partner, emphasize the importance of customer service and support amidst challenging data migrations – and the ongoing challenge of compliance and adaptability to meet the needs of patients, as well as the challenges presented by evolving technology and regulations.</p>
<h2><strong>The Changing Landscape of Health Information Management in the United States</strong></h2>
<p>The market for strong healthcare CMS in the United States – where federal and state regulations regarding HIT (health information technology) are still being defined – has been an increasingly high-stakes endeavor ever since the time of the passage of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPPA) Act and subsequent HITECH (Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health) Act.</p>
<p>This act offers healthcare entities high incentive payments for Medicaid if they can demonstrate by 2016 that they have adopted – and are “meaningfully” using – EHRs (electronic health records) at an acceptable level. It also puts in place penalties, starting in 2015, for those who have not met this requirement. “Meaningful use” of a certified EHR includes the use of electronic prescriptions and the electronic exchange of health information – all with the aim of increasing the quality of patient care.</p>
<p>Therefore, a CMS with the flexibility to meet such demands is invaluable.</p>
<h2><strong>Communicating Across Software Systems &amp; Across Organizations</strong></h2>
<p>The ability to communicate information about a single patient across various care facilities – in a way that is centralized, accurate, secure, and accessible to healthcare practitioners when they need it – is at the heart of what a CMS must be capable of doing in order to be useful for the healthcare industry.</p>
<p>To that end, a CMS like MediTech stresses that its system allows an electronic unified personal health record (PHR) to seamlessly follow each patient – from physicians' offices to ambulatory care centers, to behavioral health facilities and hospitals – all the way to home care organizations.</p>
<p>Interoperability is also a vital part of health information exchange (HIE); this means that the CMS in question can be used regardless of an organization’s existing software or affiliations. It also means a system is adaptable enough to handle mergers, ever-expanding care networks, and the implementation of shared models (such as Canadian health registries).</p>
<p>OpenText's and Lexmark's CMS both market the desirability of their paperless systems, which can digitize everything from medical imaging to prescriptions. Patient portals, such as Geisinger Health System's – powered by OpenText and pictured here – are just another part of what an excellent CMS for healthcare makes possible.</p>
<p>The benefits of effective and secure content management are many for the healthcare industry, but here's one more that hasn't even been mentioned: cost. It is estimated that old-fashioned methods of exchanging patient medical records can unnecessarily cost a single-clinician practice nearly $20,000 annually.</p>
<p>Therefore, investing in a CMS that is up to the challenge of handling the type (and amount) of information vital to good healthcare is a financially sound decision as well.</p>


What Makes a CMS a Good Fit for the Healthcare Industry and Why?

<h3>Background</h3>
<p>For over a year, HCC Medical Insurance Services utilized WordPress for their content management needs. Recently, however, it became evident that using a number of plugins and an outside vendor was ineffective and prevented the company from efficiently updating their corporate website. The usage of shortcodes to build content blocks and to style content on a page resulted in a high number of poorly coded and poorly presented pages. Considering that healthcare is a highly regulated industry, HCCMIS worried about compliance with regard to the content published out to their website. The compliance approval process often resulted in delayed content releases, sometimes to the point where the content was no longer relevant by the time it was approved.</p>
<h3>Goals</h3>
<p>As HCCMIS decided to upgrade to an enterprise CMS, the most important objective was to gain full control of their web content. Creating and editing content needed to be placed in the hands the Subject Matter Experts. In order to meet this objective, proper workflows had to be put in place to streamline the process of content creation, compliance approval and final publishing. Another goal was to speed up content creation through the extensive use of reusable blocks, which would also generate greater consistency from page to page, resulting in an improved visitor experience.</p>
<h3>CMS Evaluation Process</h3>
<p>During the CMS evaluation process, HCCMIS reviewed several content management products and performed a side-by-side comparison of features. This was followed by an ROI analysis to show which product would be able to provide a positive return to HCCMIS over a three-year period. The team presented those reports to the executive team, and Cascade Server was recommended based on future potential for growth and the ability to leverage the system to grow the value of the HCCMIS marketing department within the overarching umbrella of HCC companies. According to Bill White, senior developer at HCCMIS, Cascade Server’s enterprise capabilities proved to be the clear winner for this healthcare organization.</p>
<h3>Results</h3>
<p>While it had taken HCCMIS more than two months with an average daily input of three hours to put the 700+ pages on their site into WordPress, moving the same site into Cascade Server was much easier. Once the templates were built, 2-5 marketing team members, who were all non- technical, were able to migrate all 700+ pages from WordPress into Cascade Server within three weeks working one to two hours a day on the migration, with as little as 5% as many requests for technical help as compared with the WordPress implementation.</p>
<p>HCCMIS was able to overcome compliance issues with the help of Cascade Server’s ability to track all changes to content and provide a full history of page content by date of revisions. With Cascade Server, HCCMIS can now quickly reproduce what a visitor on the website would have seen on a specific date in the past. Reverting back to previous versions in Cascade Server can be accomplished with just two clicks, much to the delight of the Compliance department.</p>
<p>The Subject Matter Experts at HCCMIS are now empowered to manage their own web content. Workflows have been put in place for compliance approval, and the use of content blocks allow HCCMIS to maintain branding consistency throughout their site.</p>
<h3>Upcoming Projects</h3>
<p>HCCMIS started the process of completely redesigning their site at the same time that the marketing team moved the old site into Cascade Server. Handling both projects simultaneously was not an issue due to Cascade Server’s content reuse capabilities. The new site will be more user-friendly and utilize responsive web design. In addition, HCCMIS intends to further customize its compliance approval workflows.</p>

Moving from WordPress to Cascade Server for Better Content Governance and Compliance

<p>Hannon Hill, creators of the Enterprise CMS <a href="http://www.hannonhill.com/" target="_blank">Cascade Server</a>, have announced today that Cascade Server 7.8 is now live and ready for users to begin upgrading to.</p>
<p>Cascade Server is a robust platform built from the ground up to help enterprising companies manage their websites in a professional, powerful manner. Recently, Cascade Server was nominated in the <a href="/2013-people-s-choice-winner-for-best-enterprise-cms/#.Uo83L8QvlyU" target="_blank">CMS Critic People's Choice Award for Best Enterprise CMS</a>.</p>
<p>With Cascade Server 7.8 now released, users can look forward to a host of changes, particularly in regards to the way they interact with their assets and information. <h2>Relationships &amp; New Permissions Interface</h2>
<p>Cascade Server 7.9 brings about control over relationships between assets, which was one of the most voted on ideas in the user idea exchange. Now, users of all roles can see how assets such as page link to and refer to each other.</p>
<p>All assets that link to a particular page can now be viewed quickly and easily, so finding out what will be affected by a change to that page in now a faster process.</p>

<p>Additionally, thanks to one-click publishing, users can quickly re-publish all assets which link to a particular page, even when they rename, modify or move it.</p>
<p>The update also brings about a completely revamped permission interface, which allows users to take advantage of type-ahead search to quickly locate users and groups, along with faster load times in implementations involving large numbers of users and groups.</p>

<p>Users can now also assign and unassign permissions for other individual users and groups for specific folders and its contained assets, all whilst preserving other existing permissions on other assets.</p>
<h2>Saved History &amp; Assorted UI Improvements</h2>
<p>Working in more than one place is now easier, thanks to all asset history now being maintained between sessions and browsers. This enables users to pick up where they left off whenever and wherever they log in. Additionally, when users log-in or switch between sites, the navigation on the left hand side will be expanded to the last folder they were working in on that particular site.</p>

<p>To top these updates off, Cascade Server 7.8 also introduces a number of UI improvements.</p>
<p>A new, more prominent version comments box has been designed to help remind users to use comments when submitting edits. Plus, the new smart version comments automatically populates the comments with a summary of which fields were changed.</p>
<p>There are also two new Data Definition field types, which are; an asset chooser field that allows you to select pages, files and external links, and a dropdown interface that supports user submitted values in addition to pre-determined values.</p>

It's Official! Voting is Now Open for the People's Choice Awards!

<p>Hannon Hill releases its latest version of its flagship product, Cascade Server 7.6. <a href="/products/cascade-cms/">Cascade Server</a> is an enterprise CMS used by thousands of organizations in the education, government and non-profit, technology, and healthcare industries. The latest rollout from Hannon Hill provides Cascade Server users with new levels of speed and ease for content management and content strategy.</p>
<h2>What's New in Cascade Server 7.6?</h2>
<p>The two major improvements include an end-user advancement — drag-and-drop addition — as well as an enhancement for developers.</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Drag-and-drop functionality for uploading files into the CMS.</strong> Adding files to the CMS is a breeze, providing an easy drop-zone for embedding or inserting files. Dropping a text file, however, does something that few CMSs do. It automatically parses the text into the HTML text editor, eliminating those all-too-familiar headaches when you copy/paste text. When you insert an image, the CMS will automatically place the image inline into the editor, then allow you to adjust it according to your preferences using the image editing tools.</li>
<li><strong>Include one velocity templating format into another.</strong> With the update, now when a developer writes a Velocity Format, they can easily reuse it in other Velocity Formats elsewhere as needed. Velocity scripts can be reused like blocks and added to any area of a web page. Child formats can be recalled from parent formats anywhere on a site with a single macro string. This dramatically reduces the amount of time required to code portions of a site, especially when it may be necessary to do so over and over again. Plus, this improvement prevents coders from needing to copy/paste code, which will likely cut back on the number of errors and bugs introduced into the code.</li>

<h2>Improvements to Cascade Server</h2>
<p>In addition to these new benefits, the CMS received a sweeping overhaul of the many other tools its customers know and love.</p>

<li>Velocity Locator Tools — Easily access metadata and data definition tools with no index block.</li>
<li>Site Import/Export Speed Improvements — Process improvements and quicker upload times.</li>
<li>Google Analytics Connector Overhaul — The new OAuth compliant connector requires that an access token from Google be used in order to verify a site.</li>
<li>SQL Server 2012 support – Now supporting SQL 2012, Cascade will be phasing out support of older SQL versions</li>
